A Commentery About Possible Grey Knight Lists (Video Review Upcoming!)
Ok so I haven't had too much experience with the new Grey Knights dex but from my experience I forsee two major lists forthcoming.....Psycannon spam (ugh pointing out the obvious is very....grey for a lack of a better term)and GreyZilla/DreadZilla/MatrixZilla/GundamZilla (whichever you prefer)
So first of all I compare these lists with my marines, guard, Chaos and Dark Eldar armies...particularly my DE since it is my current GT army. First up is DreadZilla aka any list containging 3 dreadknights. A very expensive option that needs a clever use of shunting and out right mean close combats to be effective....too me this option has a feel of a tri-Prince chaos daemon list except it does the same idea better for more points cost at that. For this list to be effective you need to try and fit as many troop squads in as possible...whether it is a henchmen/inquisiter version or a straight up strike squad version is up in the air of oppinion. I see this as the less effective but way more fun version of GK. A good/clever opponent can use this competitivley but I do not believe it will be the main tournament list used...
Psycannon spam I believe will be used the most in tournaments.....simple idea (hmmm sounds familiar...oh wait I know razorspam XD)....a typical mech build except with a mix of rhinos and razors throwing as many psycannons as possible in these puppies...and yes there will be many....for as many squads/vehicles? Well until someone wins a tournament with one of these lists (and people base thier lists of that one....ugh netlisters =] )is yet to be determined.....good basic clean(and straight forward) idea....Move up to midfield and pop out....then commence to rip the enemy to shreds with massed ammounts of Rending Strength 7 fire.... a very deadly list at that....it more than likely will lack a death star as this is a very elite codex where points are valuable...mabye some versions will work in a dreadknight or paladin squad but these will not be as optimized with sacraficing shooting...
A few minor lists from here on out....henchmen/inquisiter lists can be interesting yet I cannot see how these play yet do to a lack of knowledge....Paladin lists will also be seen as no one can resist a termie army yet deathwing will always do this better (atleast now they will)...
A final list, as well as a popular one, will always be the hyrbrid....this will see our major use of storm ravens. A few dreadknights will be mixed in with a Raven...probably a dreadknought....probably a small group of termies...filled out with two or three small troop squads (depending on the mech makeup)....this list will be common imho....very fun and utilizing all the tools...competitve? mabye....I need more experience fighting these guys....this is a very similar list to jawaballs current blood angel army in feel....
I believe the dreadzilla lists will be aces at killpoints as long as they can survive. Since the low killpoint count, yet strong makeup,of this army. Any objective based games will be hard to near impossible to win without a clever use of the army....just too few troops with already small model counts. Psycannon spam will be the opposite....killpoints can be a pain but thats true for any mech army....with a good, solid troops comp this army will be a decent mid board objective holding army...especially since rhinos packed with gk are pretty decent in combat as well as fire support bases.....
this weekend is the Colonial...more than likely the last GT without the new dex....I will be doing a full review of the codex with my buddy marcus who is starting this as his new competiitive army. He has been studying it non stop and I intend on rading it on the car ride to the GT....Also expect a full review of the Colonial GT on the jawaballs blog....more on all this later...
