What do we need now in a 6th edition list?

Hey all Kevin here perplexed at the awesome new book that is 6th edition. In my oppinion in the begining of 5th I thought GW had released an edition that could nto be beat but now I must say that 6th is the best set of rules that I have read. It has fixed a lot of problems and the new allies rules, psycher rules, and especially wound allocation has made a better game. Yet this is my oppinion and I know that there will be dissenters. Although I will state most of the guys I know who did not like the rumors ended up likeing the new book anyway....

So on to the real topic, what should we put into a list in this edition....Well thats a tough question to awnser since the meta is gonna change sharply with many key variables coming into play such as the minor ones like mission formats, reserve changes, assault changes, power weapon changes, to the major ones like flyers, vehicle HP values, allies, fortifications and scoring rules.....So what shoudl we take now without a set meta?

Well allies really do throw a curevball into the game. Based on your army and your style the perfect ally will always change. I do stress to check the FAQ just in case you try and abuse a special rule or "aura" effect as most things, such as saguinary priest effects, got FAQ'd to only help models from the same codex. Now as a vanilla marine player I was looking into BA at first to bring in Mephiston or even more assault punch (death company got extremely good) yet everything was temporarilly to expensive and it ended up throwing off my entire list into an unbalanced state. So I looked into taking a divination psycher, as it is thehe best discipline along with telepathy, yet that is not available to my librarians. So I decided on taking the Dark Angels as allies who have access to equivelent cheap troops (with easier access to special weapons as the requirment is one for every 5) as well as the fairly cheap, and now much more powerful, 170 point Grand Master Ezekial as a divination psycher. Look him up he is a good option. Yet this is a fairly simple ally choice and does not bring anything specifically to fill any roll in the army. I will note two of the six Telepathy powers are warp charge 2 so you need a mastery level two character to even use those powers if you roll them...

Now the new flyers suddenly became very good. So I would not be surprised if these are taken int he stead of regular vehicles. They can be extremely hard to kill without decent skyfire or torrent of fire. A simple Aegis Defense line with a quad gun can fill this roll and add in good objective protection. Most of the missions are similar enough to the old book that we can focus on these needs as well. Efficiency int he new roles, such as anti vehicle and  assault capability or even torrent of fire, such as autocannon spam, to deal with the new hull point system are also needs that need to be filled. So what do you think is a mandatory requirement in a list? What are good ally choices for certain lists? More on this later........

  1. I am one that hated the rumors, but love the actual rules (except for wound allocation, I really dont want to argue which model is closer in a tournie...not to mention can be exploited horribly with different armour saves in the unit). However most of the rules are dynamic and fun. Mat Ward has redeamed hi,self with this book, the other two wern't in the dog house so bravo to them as well. I for one will be adding chaos marines to one or two of my daemon lists. My marines are going foot with a fortress of redemption. These are the only changes I am making for now. As I learn the rules I will probably branch out into other fluffy, yet competitive lists with allies.

  4. Well closer model is actually quite easy as you just go down to a tenth of an inch. no one places models that carfully....and fatewaver with chaos terminators, if fateweavers abiliuty transfers, is gonna be brutal

  5. The faq did not limit fate weaver, so yes, his abilities will transfer to battlebrothers, which chaos marines are...mwa ha ha. I will however wait for the chaos codex before I buy any chaos models, im gonna want the new toys.
